Nipsi And The Deep Seas is the debut solo project of Nirupama Belliappa - a multi- instrumentalist, composer and electronic musician from India and Canada. A Classically trained musician, her instrumental repertoire includes the Western concert flute, the Celtic and Concert harp, the piano and guitar.
Learning piano by ear as a child, Nirupama went on to train classically in the Western Classical tradition. She soon began experimenting beyond her Classical background with different genres of electronica and dance music, finding ways to take classical instrumentation out of context.
As 1/3rd of Indian live electronica band BLaNK – winners of MTV’s Ultimate DJ Championship, officially endorsed by Native Instruments - Nirupama has performed at leading music festivals across India including VH1 Supersonic, Sunburn and NH7 Weekender, opening for artists including Sasha, Tiesto and Above And Beyond.
Passionate about showcasing alternative voices in the dance music space, she chaired a panel at music conference WOMEX in Spain titled “Music Of The Marginalized: Reclaiming The Roots Of Dance Music Culture”.
Nipsi And The Deep Seas is her debut solo project, slated for release in 2024.
